From late 18th century to 1919 wies/village Jawcze was predominantly a Ruthenian/Ukrainian village with its own Greek Catholic Church. The filial Roman Catholic Church (St. Stanislaus) was in Zurow**. Rohatyn was both the POWIAT (administrative district / county) and the GMINA (judicial /tax district) > Stanislawowskie wojiwodstwo/region *** > Galicia (Halyczyna) Province, administered by ethnic Poles for the Austro-Hungarian Empire. During the Interwar Period, 1919-1938 , Galicia became a part of Reconstituted Poland. Technically Poland had not existed as a geopolitical entity for approximately the previous 125 years. All previous place names are Polish. Post World War 2, Stanislawow became a part of SSR Ukraine, under Soviet domain until 1991, when Ukraine became independent.
** The only two German Catholic villages that I could locate in Rogatyn district were Honoratowka and Lopuszna. According to Lenius' Gazetteer, Germans from both villages used the German Catholic Church in Czesniki??? Czesniki was approximately 15 kms ENE of Jawcze.
***In 1964 Stanislawow was renamed Ivano-Frankivska oblast/region.

Following is important link for anyone researching Galizien German Heritage. Make sure to check the EWZ Resettlement Documents. 1939 Evacuees had to prove that they not only spoke German, but also they could list several generations of German lineage. This was done in the form of a personal questionnaire filled out by each family member in order to qualify for evacuation.
